MasterClass Lesson 16: Game Controllers

Hello Woozens,

Get ready to revolutionize your Unitz! In our latest 16.6.2 update, we've introduced a brand-new addition to the Wiring system:

Game Controllers.

Forget making your guests run around to find physical buttons or switches. Now, you can give them the controls directly! These new items allow Woozens to interact with your games through a custom on-screen interface, opening up a world of possibilities for puzzles, battles, and events.

Choose Your Layout

We're launching with three different models to suit your needs:

  • 2-Button Controller
  • 3-Button Controller
  • 4-Button Controller

Style Tip: The UI matches your vibe. The buttons and interface colors will automatically update to match the colors you have set on the furniture item.

How It Works: The Basics

Each Game Controller has a Power Output corresponding to each button (Button A = Output A, etc.). Whenever a Woozen using the controller presses a button, it automatically sends a signal through that output. It's that simple.

Tutorial: Build a Clicks Battle

Want to test it out? Let's build a fast-paced "Clicks Battle" for two players.

1- Place your gear: Add two 2-button Game Controllers and two Basic Scoreboards.

2- The Boost: Wire the Button A output from each controller to the Increase input of its own scoreboard.

3- The Attack: Wire the Button B output from each controller to the Decrease input of the opponent's scoreboard.

The Goal: Players hop into their controllers and tap the buttons as fast as possible. You'll be increasing your own score while simultaneously "attacking" your rival to lower theirs. The winner is whoever has the most points when the time runs out!

Pro Tips: Advanced Wiring

For the master builders, we've included extra features and inputs to give you total control over your game flow.

Inputs (Control the Game)

  • Power Input A: If this is wired, the controller can only be entered when the signal is ON. Use this to lock the game until the host is ready to start.
  • Disable Buttons: This deactivates the UI buttons without kicking the player out. This is perfect for Trivia games to prevent players from answering before the host finishes the question.

  • Eject: Send a pulse here to instantly boot the player out of the controller. This is great for rotating turns or ending a round.

Outputs (Automate the Room)

  • Occupied: Sends a continuous signal as long as someone is in the controller. Link this to a Counter to detect when all seats are full and the game is ready to begin.
  • User Enter: Sends a pulse signal the moment someone enters the controller.
  • User Exit: Sends a pulse signal the moment someone leaves the controller.

Pro Interface Features

  • Secret Messages (Tooltips): If you add a tag or tooltip to your Game Controller furniture, that text will appear directly on the player's UI:

NOTE: Currently, this tooltip also shows on the furniture for everyone else. However, in our next update, it will show ONLY in the UI of the player using the controller. This is perfect for passing secret roles-like telling one specific player "You are the Werewolf!"

  • Clean & Immersive Gameplay: To keep the focus on the action, part of the standard Woozworld UI (like the Quests shortcuts) will be hidden while a player is inside a Game Controller. Note: Don't worry, you aren't stuck! All other essential features -- like moving the camera, zooming, and using the chat -- stay fully visible and usable as long as you remain in the controller.

What Will You Create?

The sky is the limit with Game Controllers. Here are a few ideas to get your brain wiring:

  • Live Trivia Quizzes: Use a 4-button controller as a "Buzzer" for multiple-choice questions. Use the Disable Buttons input to ensure nobody guesses too early!
  • Social Deduction Games: Use the Tooltips to secretly tell players their roles. One person might see "You are the Innocent," while another sees "You are the Imposter!"
  • Escape Rooms: Create a "Control Room" where one player has to press buttons in a specific order to open doors or move furniture for a teammate.
  • Classroom Clickers: Teachers and hosts can use these to let players "vote" on what happens next in an event.
  • Rhythm & Memory Challenges: Combine controllers with lights. A host flashes a sequence of colors, and the player has to tap the matching buttons to succeed.
  • Pass-the-Torch Races: Use the Eject and Occupied signals to create a relay race. Once a player finishes their task, they are ejected, and the next player's controller is powered on!
  • Arcade Sports: Build a Table Soccer (Foosball) or Air Hockey table! Use the buttons to move blockers or "flippers" left and right to defend your goal.

We can't wait to see how you use these new tools to bring your Unitz to life. Whether you're hosting a massive live event or building a hidden puzzle for your friends, the Game Controller is your new best friend in the world of Wiring.
