Groundhog Day!

Woozens,

Happy Groundhog Day!

According to legend, if a groundhog sees his own shadow outside his burrow on February 2, we are in for six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, an early spring is expected.

The Groundhogs have made their predictions for 2023... But they don't quite agree .. It's a high-pressure day for the American groundhogs. Big responsibility.

Sam, the Nova Scotia groundhog, and Willie, the Ontario groundhog, are in the midst of a dispute over who will be right or wrong. However, the majority of groundhogs on the continent seem to agree that it's going to be a looooong winter.

And the Quebec groundhog?

The Quebec groundhog was called Fred! I say "was" because the famous groundhog went to rodent heaven yesterday, before he could make his prediction. ( I'm not crying you're crying ..) It was a human child from Val-d'Espoir in Gaspésie (northern Quebec) who made the prediction instead of the late Fred.

A small note

Groundhog Day is a German tradition that dates back to the 19th century. At that time, the prediction was made with a badger. But in North America, badgers are quite rare, so we replaced them with groundhogs!

For the occasion, we made you a little quiz to celebrate the groundhogs in our lives and to pay tribute to Little Fred! It's going on HERE!

Have a great Woozen Groundhog Day!
