Update regarding our chat filtering system
Hi everyone,
We wanted to share a quick update regarding a change to our background chat moderation system that went live earlier this week (Monday around noon).
Our previous moderation provider of over 12 years is unfortunately ceasing operations, which meant we had to transition to a new third-party system. We've been working on this for the past few months to try and make the switch as seamless as possible.
Since the switch, a few of you have already noticed that the filtering is behaving a bit differently. Here is what's going on:
- Increased sensitivity: The new system is much more effective at catching things that shouldn't be in chat, but right now, it's a bit too sensitive and is occasionally blocking normal messages. We are actively fine-tuning this and will be adjusting the filters over the next few months to get it dialed in correctly.
- Whole-message filtering: You'll also notice a shift in how blocks happen. While the old system could pinpoint and replace single words with a #, the new tool is designed to block the full message if it triggers the filter. It's a different behavior, but it ensures that harmful content gets completely stopped rather than partially slipped through.
This is going to be an ongoing process as we monitor the new system, and we'll be continuously adjusting the settings over the next few months to find the right balance.
As always, feel free to drop any thoughts or general feedback about the update in the comments below!
Thanks for your patience while we get everything adjusted.
